Baby’s First Camera
Ted has done photography for many many years before we met. After a couple years of dating we decided to take a small vacation to the White Mountains. He decided to get me a small point and shoot camera as it would take much better pictures than my cell phone. The camera was a Cannon Power Shot SX740 HS. I took several nice pictures during vacation.
Over a few years I used it various places we went to, but my pictures always looked lifeless and low resolution compared to his.
Then, in the early part of last September, while we were pawn shop and thrift store browsing, we found a killer deal on a Cannon Rebel T7 with a nice lens for super cheap. We then did some more hunting and found a few other lenses for it. This camera in conjunction with the lenses I got took great pictures! They were still not quite as good as Ted’s, but they were much closer.
Two pictures I took with the new camera really bit me with the photography bug. The first was a wild squirrel we found at one of the picnic areas on Mt. Lemmon. He was a little skittish, but he was happy to sit high up in a tree and eat a nut while keeping an eye on me. I was able to get several great pictures of him.
The second picture was of this ant I found walking across a large rock. Many times, when you find ants they are in groups, but for some reason this one was all alone.
After a couple of months of learning photography and shooting with the Canon rebel, I found a super nice Nikon Z6 III with a decent lens on sale brand new. I could not resist the deal and bought it.
Now for the last 3 weeks or so I have been using the new camera and picked up a few more lenses for it. It has only furthered my interest in photography. I have been doing my best to learn quickly and have spent many hours looking into various settings as well as tips and tricks from others. I have found my favorite thing to do is photograph wildlife. There is something about catching a hummingbird during the couple of seconds it is resting and being able to see all the beautiful colors on it or being able to capture a moment a butterfly landed to eat from a flower that allows you to see the butterfly closer than you ever could just watching it.
I hope that with time and practice, I will get better and better shots, on an even wider variety of wildlife!
